Mack, an adult film star, describes to Gumbel in painful detail the night of the assault, when Koppenhaver first attacked Mack's friend, Corey Thomas, before turning on Mack herself. Mack had managed to call 911 for help, and the call managed to record most of the assault (audio clips of Mack screaming are played during the interview). He violently assaulted her and attempted to rape her. It took months for Mack to fully recover. Mack tears up as she describes what happened. I was going in and out of consciousness, she says. I couldn't catch my breath. I started convulsing. At that point I felt like I was going to die. I told him I neededhelp. I told him I needed to go to the hospital. And he said, 'There's nothing they can help you with. They can't help you now.' Although Koppenhaver is now in jail, he responded to HBO's requests via a letter claiming he was innocent and he was actually ambushed. Mack says she's ready to move on. She wants to be known as a strong, beautiful woman and not the girl who got her ass beat.
